Building A Log Cabin | Ep. 67 | Finally starting some building again!
In this episode, we install our bug screen on the front porch and put up a birdfeeder. Work continues on the garden as we plant strawberries, herbs, rhubarb and other vegetables. We finally build a real floor on the extended portion of the cabin using treated lumber. We do some trail maintenance, and lastly we burn some old branches that have accumulated around the cabin.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

Spring is here! SO MUCH to do around the land and cabin | Garden, firewood, soil and water.
Переглядів 31 тис.21 день тому
In this video, we return to the cabin after a long winter. Our first task is to build raised beds for the garden. We got 3 cubic yards of soil delivered and fill up all 5 of our raised beds, as well as the inside of the greenhouse. Up at the cabin, we begin collecting rainwater for our daily use, and we full up our wood shed with wood that we cut, chopped, and stored outside last fall. We also ...
Canadian Couple tries making MAPLE SYRUP for the first time - Surprisingly Easy and FUN!

Spring came very early this year! Maple syrup season in our area is typically at the end of March/beginning of April. But this year, thanks to very warm weather at the end of February, the trees started running sap in the first week of March. We had to hurry to prepare everything we needed if we didn't want to miss it! We built a rudimentary fire pit using old cinderblocks and collected dry sta...

In this quick winter update, we explain why we haven't been posting many videos. It's not because we hate winter! Quite the opposite, winter is one of our favorite times of the year. However a bunch of other factors, like seeing family and friends, getting sick, and travelling, have led to us barely spending any time here. We've also been focused on another project that's taking most of our tim...

Winter is here; first snow of the year! In this episode, we build a seating nook in the corner of the cabin. One side has a seat that tilts up for storage, while the other side pulls out to act as a guest sleeping area. We also finish up the trim, both interior and exterior, around the front door. Lastly, we build a makeshift bridge over the stream near our cabin to more safely collect water fr...

In this episode, fall colors are in full swing! The forest is so beautiful this time of year. We start by removing the bug screens form the porch; we won't be needing them until next spring! We then dig a greywater drainage pit. This pit will drain the water form our shower into the earth. We then build another dresser for the 2nd floor mezzanine and a shelf for more storage up there. I've watched several of these builds and yours is, by far, the best I've seen! One burning question: the insulation under the floor. Won't that get chewed up by rodents and/or get wet and moldy?

    Achievements in science and technology are made to allow you not to waste time on everyday problems, and to make the most of your free time for creativity, self-education, raising children and any activity: science, production, art or culture. And those who tell you that life in nature is so wonderful and beautiful, yes, it is, but everyday problems do not go away, then instead of developing and growing as a person, you are simply in survival mode and you are already driven by animal instincts. And such people are easy to manage, i.e. you understand who is imposing all this.

    26:58 See for yourself, the expansion coefficient of wood, metal, and cement mortar is different, i.e. the compression-expansion process will lead to the formation of cracks, right? In the case where you had only one insulation - moss, it contracts and expands along with the tree.

  • @user-qp9zu9cy3h
    @user-qp9zu9cy3h 6 днів тому

    25:35 So, that’s why it was built, so that there would be natural ventilation through the cracks between the logs, sealed with moss, so that there would be no dampness in the house. Right?
